How to Clean a Screen Safely
How to clean a screen without damage
This guide covers how to clean a screen before a pixel check, so specks of dust are not mistaken for faulty pixels.
- Turn the display off and let it cool; dark screens show dust best.
- Wipe gently with a dry, clean microfibre cloth in one direction.
- For marks, slightly dampen the cloth with distilled water. Never spray liquid directly on the screen.
- Follow the manufacturer’s guidance on cleaning products. Avoid ammonia, alcohol-based or abrasive cleaners on coated screens unless the manufacturer allows them.
- Let it dry fully before turning it on.
Dust or dead pixel?
Dust usually looks soft or shifts when you wipe; a pixel fault is sharp and stays in the same place in the colour test.
