What these mean

  • Resolution: screen size in CSS pixels.
  • Pixel ratio: device pixels per CSS pixel.
  • Physical = resolution × ratio.

Browser notes

Windows display scaling and browser zoom change the reported values. Reset zoom (Ctrl+0) for accurate numbers.

How to use

  1. Reset browser zoom to 100% for accurate values.
  2. Read the values in the card.

How this screen resolution test works

This screen resolution test reads the values your browser reports: the screen size, the visible viewport and the device pixel ratio. The numbers update live when you resize the window or rotate the device.

Screen size vs viewport

Screen is the whole display; viewport is the area inside the browser window. Websites use the viewport to choose their layout.

Finding your native resolution

Multiply the screen size by the pixel ratio. This is an estimate: some systems round values. Your operating system display settings show the exact native resolution.

Next steps

Once you know the resolution, run the dead pixel test across every pixel, or check gradients in the screen contrast test.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my screen resolution lower than advertised?

Browsers report resolution in CSS pixels. With display scaling (for example 150% on Windows, or Retina on Mac) the reported size is the native resolution divided by the pixel ratio. Multiply by the pixel ratio to estimate the native size.

What is device pixel ratio?

The number of physical pixels per CSS pixel. 2x means each CSS pixel is drawn with a 2×2 block of device pixels.

Does browser zoom change the result?

Yes. Zoom changes the pixel ratio and viewport. Press Ctrl+0 (Cmd+0 on Mac) for accurate numbers.
